I Want To Lose My Belly Fat
I can hardly think of one dieter that hasn’t screamed “how can I LOSE MY BELLY FAT“?Not only does it look bad but it’s one of the unhealthiest areas to carry extra fat.
The Facts About Belly Fat
There’s two different types of “belly fat”. There’s that kind that lies just beneath the skin – you know – that stuff that hangs over your pant’s waistband or bra band! The more dangerous kind is known as “visceral” fat and can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, cancer and even Alzheimer’s.
To get a true indicator of how “fat” you are find your body mass index (BMI).
Determine your BMI
Take your weight x 703
Take the number you get and divide it by your height in inches
Divide that number by your height in inches again
You are considered morbidly obese if your BMI is over 40; obese at 30 - 40 and overweight at 25 - 30. The acceptable range is a BMI of 18.5 – 24.9.
Medical professionals now look at the size of your waistline as an indicator of obesity rather than just the number on the scale or even just your BMI. A waist measurement over 35 inches puts you at a greater risk for things like heart disease and diabetes. (For men it’s over 40 inches.)
These numbers are critically important no matter how much you weigh! Your waist to hip ratio is another good assessment of belly fat levels. Measure the narrowest part of your waist – the area between your rib cage and your hip bone. Then measure your hips (turn sideways when looking in a mirror to make sure you include your rear!) and divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. A healthy ratio is considered 0.8 or less.
Say Goodbye To Belly Fat
Believe it or not, one recommendation for getting rid of belly fat calls for eating — fat! How can that be possible? Well, research has shown that eating the good kind of fats works significantly in reducing belly fat. The good fats are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids. We need to avoid those unhealthy saturated and trans fats like butter, and hydrogenated oils found in so many prepackaged foods.
High stress levels are another cause of belly fat. High stress levels contribute to the production of the hormone cortisol. It’s been proven that cortisol stimulates your appetite and increases your sugar and fat cravings. And the worse part is that it tells your body to store the extra fat in your belly! Nasty stuff, huh?
If you want to have a little fun while you help get rid of that belly fat think about getting a hula hoop! You can whittle that middle even faster using the new weighted, fitness hula hoops! It’ll make you feel like a kid again.
Your main goal should be to cut out the bad fats and get more of the good fats. It’s a fact that adding more good fats can help you reduce belly fat. Control your stress levels by getting more physical activity daily, getting more sleep and getting more fun time with family and friends.
